Stephanie Case

International human rights lawyer, professional ultrarunner, and non-profit leader Stephanie Case (BA(H), JD, LLM) has built a career at the intersection of humanitarian crises and extreme endurance. Over the last two decades, she has worked for the United Nations and aid organizations in Afghanistan, South Sudan, Gaza, and across the broader Middle East. Her work has involved investigating human rights violations and abuses, negotiating with governments and armed groups to better protect civilians during war, and ensuring that humanitarian responses reach the most vulnerable individuals and groups.

In addition to her human rights expertise, Stephanie runs professionally for The North Face. Since winning her first ultramarathon when she came on the scene in 2008, she has continued to push the boundaries of human endurance, winning or placing in some of the toughest races on earth, including a 450 km non-stop, self-navigated race across the Italian Alps. Showcasing extraordinary determination, her story of winning a 100km ultramarathon just six months post-partum while breastfeeding her child at aid stations went viral globally.

Stephanie is the founder of Free to Run, an award-winning charity that operates in multiple hot spot locations with the mission to boldly advance gender equity through running and leadership programs for women and girls. Her work was recognized with Canada’s prestigious Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal in 2020 and portrayed in the acclaimed documentary Free to Run.

Stephanie is currently working on her first book and offering consulting services for companies and organizations working on human rights, equality, and inclusion, while serving as a keynote speaker for a variety of clients around the world.
